Meditations on God

  • Guided By Truth

Start your day telling yourself the truth.

As you go throughout your day, you will be bombarded with opinions and agendas.

Most of what you see and hear is intended to benefit someone else’s interests and not your own.

Much of it will be simply untrue.

By starting your day telling yourself something true, you set your bearings in the direction you want to go.

There will be plenty of distractions and surprises, but stay the course.

If you find yourself going astray, remind yourself of what you know to be true and use that to guide you back in the right direction.

  • Nothing To Fear

Why am I afraid when I know that God is with me?

What is there to fear in the presence of perfect and unwavering love?

Though my body may become ill or injured, my spirit remains untouched and unharmed by this world.

Nothing can hurt that place in me wherein God’s love resides.

Only that which is temporary can become sick or broken.

What use is there in fearing that the temporary will pass away when it is its very nature to do so?

There is no reason to fear for God’s love is, was, and forever will be.

  • Be Kind To Yourself

    Be kind to yourself.

Don’t be selfish or self-serving, but be gentle and loving toward yourself.

Allow yourself the same grace and forgiveness you would a dear friend.

Life is difficult enough without you making it worse for yourself.

People are cruel enough that there is no need for you to be cruel to yourself.

Stop setting unreasonable expectations that no one, least of all you, can live up to.

Give yourself some room to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow.

  • A Courageous Act

It is impossible to get to the heart of your creative work without vulnerability.

Art is not art without risk.

The creative act is a courageous act.

    Dive into your fear.

    Make friends with it.

Open up your heart to the light, even if it hurts, and it will hurt.

Transform your pain into something beautiful and be transformed.

  • Two Stories From Pain

Even if someone hates, hurts, or mistreats you, how you feel about that is up to you.

People will wrong you, you will experience tragedy and loss, and the world will treat you unfairly.

Pain is inevitable, but resentment and self-pity are optional.

They are not a burden bestowed upon you, but a burden you choose to pick up and carry.

Once the initial pain of injury subsides, you get to choose what story you tell yourself.

You can either tell yourself a story of suffering and victimhood, or of healing and empowerment.

The former story leads to misery and despair, while the latter leads to contentment and freedom.
