  • Moments Passing

When we are children, we feel like every moment is the most important moment to ever happen in our lives.

We perceive every experience as if it is our only opportunity to ever have that experience.

We do not want to miss anything because we have this idea that whatever is happening will never happen again.

    And we are right.

Every moment, every experience, and every interaction we have is the last one of its kind.

Once this moment is gone, it is gone forever.

Life will never be exactly like it is right now ever again.

You will never be the you that you are right now ever again.

In every breath you breathe and every moment that passes, the world is changed forever and you are changed along with it.

    Behave accordingly.

  • Balancing Needs

What is best for the people around you is not necessarily what is best for you.

This can be a difficult situation to find yourself in.

Balancing the needs of others with your own is not easy.

When others rely on you to take care of them, it gets even more complicated.

Their needs can feel paramount to your own, and sometimes they are.

But your needs cannot be ignored forever.

If your emotional, psychological, and physical health is neglected for long enough, even if for the right reasons, there are consequences.

And these are often not easily overcome.

You must, therefore, know what your needs are and find a way to balance them with the needs of those around you.

At times, this will mean prioritizing yourself, lest you become incapable of helping anyone at all.

  • Aligning To Purpose

What you are good at is not necessarily what you are called to do.

Your skills and talents may not be aligned with your purpose.

Skills and talents often develop out of necessity.

Your purpose, however, is something you must choose to pursue.

It is something you must work for.

Even if awareness of your calling comes to you with no thought or effort on your part, its actualization will require work.

And this may mean turning away from what you are good at in order to pursue your purpose.

This will be uncomfortable and it will not be easy, but the alternative is to live a life of unfulfilled potential.

In order to pursue your calling, you must be willing to start over, to be a beginner, and to know nothing other than what you must do.

And that is enough to make a beginning.

  • Loving Truth

    Temper your truth with love.

Do not use the truth as an excuse to hurt other people’s feelings.

Simply because something is true does not mean that it needs to be said.

If the purpose of the truth is to be helpful, it is counterproductive to speak the truth unkindly.

    It is also not necessary.

For every unkind truth, there is a compassionate alternative.

Without love, truth can be cold and even cruel.

Do your best to not be cold and cruel also.

It is up to you to bring love and compassion to the truth before you share it.

It is up to you to bring love and compassion to the world.

  • Sustained Progress

Consistency is often more important than intensity.

You can give your all for a while.

    And this is sometimes necessary.

But it is not sustainable over long periods of time.

There is more to life than work.

You need time to rest, time to relax, and time to recover.

    Push yourself when you must.

But learn to pace yourself when you can.

If you truly want to make progress, your effort must be sustainable over a long period of time.

This will take you further in the long run than short bursts of intensity that burn you out.
