  • Healing Hurt Feelings

When someone hurts your feelings, try not to think about how you can hurt them back.

Try to consider what in them is hurt that would cause them to do such a thing.

Perhaps this person is in pain and, not knowing how to process or heal that pain, is taking it out on others.

Ask yourself what part, if any, you may have played in the circumstances that led up to your hurt feelings.

You are not necessarily to blame, but you may have done something, even unknowingly, that caused them to retaliate.

Think about how, in the past, you have behaved toward them or someone else as they have toward you.

Another possibility is that this behavior that you find offensive may be a reflection of some aspect of your character that you are in denial of.

You may simply be hurt by something in them that you do not like about yourself.

If all of these possibilities are exhausted and you are still at a loss, it is possible that they are just cruel, uncaring, and unkind.

The point is that compassion, not retaliation, should be your first strategy for dealing with hurt feelings.

Compassion is the path to healing

Retaliation perpetuates the cycle of pain.

  • Diverging Paths

When it is time for someone to move on from your life, do not try to hold them back.

No matter how much you care for them or feel you have done for them, if they need something different, that is their affair.

You have no right to anyone’s friendship, companionship, or time.

What others chooses to give you is a gift.

If it is not given freely, if it is coerced, manipulated, or forced, it is not real and it is not sustainable.

You cannot make someone want to be with you, nor should you try.

Everyone has his or her own path to travel in this life.

Sometimes your path will run in parallel with someone else’s for an extended period of time.

Some paths merely cross for a moment.

But nothing in this life lasts forever.

    All paths will diverge someday.

It is not for you to try to force them to run together for longer than they should.

  • Opportunities To Live

The more you open up, the more you risk getting hurt.

You cannot choose to only experience that which is pleasant.

To feel is to feel everything, both pleasant and painful.

To be open is to be open to everything that life has to offer.

Perhaps more importantly, to be open is to be open to everything your inner life has to offer.

How can you know who you are if you deny the parts of yourself that are unpleasant, frightening, or painful?

How can you truly live if you avoid life itself?

Embrace the joy and the pain, the beauty and the tragedy, the hope and the fear.

The more you open up, the more opportunities you create to live.

  • Worries And Hopes

Some people spend their whole lives waiting for the world to end.

This is no way to live.

Life is right in front of you, waiting for you to pay attention.

    The future is unknowable.

The future is out of your control.

    Enjoy this moment.

It is the only moment like this you will ever get.

Why waste your time fretting about tomorrow when tomorrow may never come?

The future is neither promised nor certain.

    All you have is now.

What are you doing now to make the most of this opportunity you have been given?

    This life is a gift.

Do not squander it away with worries and hopes.

    Be here now.

Smile and enjoy the miracle of your existence.

  • Some Things Just Hurt

    Some things just hurt.

There is no way around it.

Suffering is unavoidable in this life.

Pain and love are all we have.

If you are fortunate, you will experience more of the latter than the former, but no one makes it through this life unscathed.

    Some things just hurt.

Do not run from the pain.

    Lean in.

    It is part of you.

    It is here for you.

Allow it to teach you to love more deeply.

Love will not save you from pain, but it will put it in perspective.

    Some things just hurt.
