  Lord I know
  you do not protect me
  from suffering
  for all of your people
  have suffered
  your very son was beaten
  broken and killed
  by this world of sin
  but you provide
  the strength and wisdom
  to move through my pain
  with faith and grace
  for you do not allow me to suffer
  without purpose
  even if it is beyond
  my understanding

  The falling leaves
  have more dignity
  than we
  for they do not
  cling to their past
  longing to remain
  as they were
  nor do they
  wish for change
  or a future
  that conforms to their demands
  they merely accept their fate
  as that which once lived
  but now falls
  for the sake
  of those who will grow
  in their place
