  • Refocusing Generosity

No one likes to feel taken advantage of, least of all for being generous.

    It is embarrassing and painful.

But it does not mean you should stop being generous, simply that you should be more discerning with your generosity.

Generosity was and is not the problem.

The problem is the persons to whom you are choosing to be generous.

Solve for that, refocus your generosity toward those who truly need and appreciate it, and you will find that your pain and embarrassment will transform into joy and fulfillment.

  • Out Of Fear Into Action

    Fear creates isolation.

It shrinks your world down to the size of itself, offering no comfort or consolation in the process.

    Because fear is selfish.

It demands all of your attention and cares nothing about you, your relationships, or your desires.

Fear is the cancerous destroyer of hopes and dreams, but as powerful as fear feels and as convincing as fear’s lies may sound, fear is ultimately an illusion.

Expose your fear to light, face it, and walk through it, and you will discover that fear only exists in your mind.

As such, fear is overcome by getting out of your head and into action.

  • Leveraging Change

To make the greatest change, you must seek out the longest lever.

There are certain decisions you can make in your life that will have the greatest overall impact.

What is one facet of your life that is disproportionately causing you the most unhappiness?

What is the one project, relationship, attitude, or behavior that, if changed, would have the greatest positive affect on all other facets of your life?

Look for these levers, find a firm footing, and pull with all of your might.

As Archimedes said, you may just move the world.

  • Critical Separation

Criticism is easy, but it ultimately leads to misery.

It helps you to believe you are separate from the person you are criticizing, and it excuses you from looking at yourself and the role you play in your own unhappiness.

As long as you can point at someone else as being the problem, you do not have to face the truth about yourself and your relationship with your discontentment.

The only way to transcend this attitude of judgement and the separation it creates is to through compassion and forgiveness, both for others and for yourself.

Compassion and forgiveness are not easy, but they are the path to peace.

  • Courage And Uncertainty

Courage and uncertainty go hand in hand.

If the results of your actions were guaranteed, you would not need courage.

Courage is necessary precisely because you do not know how things will work out.

Of course risk should be mitigated whenever possible and to whatever degree possible, but you cannot live courageously and avoid risk altogether.

To live courageously, you must step into the unknown with your head up, chest out, and eyes open, ready for battle because courage does not guarantee ease or comfort.

The only thing courage guarantees is change.
