Meditations on God

  • Undistracted

Take a moment to sit undistracted.

Resist the need to do something, to search for something, to watch, listen to, or say something.

    Just sit. Just be.

Allow the urge to reach out for distractions to come and go.

They are just feelings; they are just thoughts.

    Just sit. Just be.

In this space is where you will discover the truth about who you are, what you value, and what you fear.

Allow these thoughts and feelings to come and go as well.

They are just thoughts; they are just feelings.

    Just sit. Just be.

Here you are. This is you. Just be you.

  • Be Sensitive

    Sensitivity is not a weakness.

On the contrary, sensitivity is a superpower.

We are taught that we should be less sensitive, that we should toughen up, feel less deeply, and not experience things so personally.

But through art, music, film, literature, cooking, and even just caring, sensitive people make the world a more beautiful, tolerable, and livable place.

Do not hide your sensitivity; do not cover it up, bury it, or be ashamed of it.

Embrace your sensitivity; make friends with it and accentuate it.

The world needs sensitive people like you to feel deeply and to turn those feelings into something moving.

  • Working For A Better Life

Do not use your work as an excuse to ignore your life.

Work is a means to an end.

Work is not and should not be an end in itself.

We work to have a better life.

Our work allows us to provide for ourselves and our families, to take care of our health and other basic needs, and, ideally, to more fully enjoy the time we spend not working.

But there is a point of diminishing returns wherein our work begins to cost us more than it gives.

If you find yourself sacrificing your family, your health, and your joy for your work, you may have found that point.

If your work makes your life worse, you need to find different work.

  • Experiencing Infinity

There are only twenty four hours in a day.

    Make the most of them.

Find enjoyable ways to extend the hours so that they feel longer than they are.

In this way, you actually give yourself more time, or at least that is how you will perceive it.

    Perception, after all, is experience.

Look for ways to live multiple days within one day and you will live multiple lives within this one life you have to live.

Your time here is limited, but you can make it feel infinite if you choose to experience each moment as if it is the only one that matters.

Because this moment is the only one that matters.

  • Sustained Succes

You can outwork everyone around you, but without sufficient rest and recovery, your success may be short-lived.

There is no success without hard work and in order to have more than you do today, you must do more than you did yesterday.

However, your ability to sustain your output of effort and to enjoy the fruits of your labor is largely determined by the quality of your rest and recovery.

You can push your body and mind as hard as you want to, but be aware that you can only do this for so long before they shut down or break to demand that you rest.

Recovery from this will most likely set your progress back much more than if you moved a little slower and pushed a little less hard to allow for rest and recovery in your schedule.

Success without longevity and sustainability, after all, can hardly be considered success.
