  • Practical Creativity

Do not let anyone tell you that creative work is impractical.

    Conformity is impractical.

    Complacency is impractical.

Ignoring inspiration, denying your impulse to create, and resigning yourself to a the dubious safety of mundanity is impractical.

A lifetime of regret and remorse over wasted desire and talent is impractical.

Draw. Paint. Write. Sing. Dance. Act. Play. Create!

    Let it out!

Put your creative work into the world.

    We need it.

    You need it.

There are few more noble callings than making life more beautiful, more meaningful, and more bearable for others.

    Art is powerful.

It changes lives, it changes the world, and it changes you.

Heed the call, follow your muse, and enjoy the journey.

    Creativity is divinity expressing itself.

  • Celebrate Success

    Celebrate your wins.

    Rejoice when things go well.

Enjoy success when it comes your way.

    But remain humble.

    These moments are fleeting.

Your accomplishments, like all things in life, are temporary.

Be grateful for the time you get with them.

Every step forward makes a difference.

    Every little win matters.

When all of your hard work culminates into a moment of triumph, revel in that moment.

    Savor it.

    You deserve it.

But keep in mind that your success, like your failure, does not define you.

  • Borrowed Perspective

Your problems are rarely as overwhelming or insurmountable as they seem, but it is difficult to see past that which is right in front of you.

From where you stand, you lack the perspective to see the other side of the obstacles in your path.

Sometimes you must simply step back to see the bigger picture.

Other times, you need to work through or around your problems to gain the perspective necessary to see that life is bigger than your difficulties first appeared.

But there will be times when none of this seems possible, when you do not feel strong or capable enough, and when you just do not have the will or the confidence to move forward.

In these instances, it is not only okay, but it may even be necessary to ask for help.

There are other people who have been where you are and who have reached the other side.

Find them and ask them for guidance, for a helping hand, and let them show you the way.

No one gets through this life without ever needing help; you will not be the first.

Borrow someone else’s perspective, borrow their wisdom and their courage, and use it as your own until you reach the other side of whatever is standing in your way.

Then, go back and help someone else.

  • Sustainable Progress

Every day is a good day to work toward your next goal.

It does not have to be much, but you should do something.

Every little bit of progress adds up over time.

In fact, trying to do too much at once will often backfire and slow your progress down.

Doing too much at once may burn you out, but it also gives you an excuse to take a break.

Doing a little bit every day, while it feels like you are moving slower, allows you to sustain your effort over a long period of time and, because you are not asking too much from yourself at any given time, makes excuses more difficult.

Do something, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, and over time it will turn into something big.

Slow, incremental progress is still progress.

More importantly, it is sustainable progress.

  • To Act Bravely

If you do something brave and fail, no one else gets to have an opinion about your failure without your permission.

What other people think about the outcome of your efforts is none of your business unless you choose for it to be.

You are the one who stepped up.

You are the one who faced your fears, and make no mistake, there is no bravery without there first being fear.

You are the one who put it on the line, who took a chance, and who went to battle against the demons of inertia, mundanity, and mediocrity.

Every act of bravery is remarkable, regardless of the outcome.

You are exceptional because of your failures, not in spite of them, because failure is evidence that you tried.

Use your failure as fuel to move forward.

Keep going, keep trying, and continue to act bravely.

The opinions of those who do not act bravely, and will never do so, are of no consequence.

Their voices exist only in your mind; they are not real.

They are echos of your past and of the fear that you left behind on your journey of courage.

The only thing that matters is the next challenge you will face, the next obstacle you will overcome, and the work you do now in preparation for the next opportunity to act bravely.
