  • All You Can Do

Whatever you do, even if you give it your all, still may not work out as you had hoped.

    Give your all anyway.

Do your best regardless of the outcome.

You cannot predict nor control the future.

Whatever your plans or desires are, life gets to have a say.

    Give your all anyway.

Answer the question of whether or not you could have done more with your efforts.

Make it clear to yourself that you tried everything you could to make things work out.

Do not leave any room for doubt in your mind.

Other people’s opinions do not matter in this regard.

You know whether you gave everything you had or not.

    Do what you can.

The rest is out of your hands.

    Give your all anyway.

  • Art You Are Proud Of

For every piece of art you are proud of and willing to share with the world, there are likely dozens or even hundreds that will never see the light of day.

    Making good art is difficult.

Making art that you are so happy with that you are willing to share it with others is even more of a challenge.

But the bad art is necessary to get to the good art.

The projects that are started and never finished, or that are finished and then discarded or set aside, are an essential part of the creative process.

You cannot make good art without making a lot of bad art as well.

The goal, then, should be to make as much bad art as possible so that you can get to the good art.

The bad art is where the work is.

It is where the learning happens.

The good art, the art that you are proud of, will emerge out of the ashes of your failures.

Make mistakes, make a mess, and make bad art until you realize that there is no such thing as bad art.

There is only the art you are proud of and the art that you had to make in order to make the art you are proud of.

  • Pace Yourself

Set your own standards for progress.

It is your life to live and no one else can live it for you.

You need to determine where you want to go and how fast you want to get there.

And then you need to go.

Go at your own pace, but do not let anything stand in your way.

Life will try to distract you and deter you.

People will try to pressure and persuade you.

But you only get one life and, as long as you are not harming anyone, you need to live it as you see fit.

No one else will have to live with your regrets but you.

It is your task, therefore, to ensure that you have as few regrets as possible, that you live your life in such a way that you are satisfied with what you have accomplished and how you have accomplished it.

This means going your own way and at your own speed, not necessarily alone, but not on someone else’s timeline either.

  • Prioritizing Deep Work

It is very difficult to have multiple priorities.

No matter how good you may think you are at multi-tasking, you can really only focus on one thing at a time.

Changing focus and changing priorities is neither easy nor is it free.

Every time you stop paying attention to one thing in order to pay attention to another, it costs you momentum.

Without momentum, you cannot truly make progress.

By constantly shifting focus, you are in a perpetual state of false starts.

This prevents you from doing deep work.

That is to say, you cannot do your best work if you do not focus on your best work.

By prioritizing everything, you are essentially prioritizing nothing.

So choose what matters most in this moment and give it all of your attention.

Make it a priority by making it the priority.

If you can give your most important work your undivided attention, you will find that your work becomes much more rewarding.

  • Your Own Hero

It is easy to imagine yourself as being the hero of your own story when life is going smoothly and when you are getting what you want.

But heroes are not defined by easy times.

A hero is the person who emerges on the other side difficulty, having risen to and overcome the challenges in his or her way.

Every obstacle, hardship, and challenge along your path is, therefore, an opportunity for you to become the hero you imagine yourself to be.

It will not be easy, however.

    That is the point.

If your goals are meaningful and worthy of your aspirations, they will be difficult to achieve.

Along the way, you will stumble, you will fall, and you will fail.

Remind yourself as you go that this is not merely part of the way.

    This is the way.
