  • Inspiration Is Unreliable

The problem with inspiration is that it is unreliable.

You cannot make yourself be inspired.

It is not something you can force.

Inspiration comes when it comes and it arrives in whatever form it chooses.

Waiting to be inspired, therefore, is impractical.

The truth is that inspiration may never come if you wait for it or it will show up at an inconvenient time or place when you cannot do anything with it.

Effort, on the other hand, is quite reliable.

    Effort, correctly channeled, produces results.

If you consistently put in enough effort, you may even find that inspiration finds you more frequently.

Inspiration, as it turns out, rewards effort.

Effort tells inspiration that you are serious, that you are ready to take advantage of its gifts, and that it will not be wasted on you.

When you want to be inspired, or you want to do something inspiring, start with effort.

You may be surprised to find that, in the end, it was actually inspiration that was waiting for you to show up.

  • With Intention

    Start your day with intention.

Set your goals and get to work.

Life is not going to give you what you need or want without you putting in the effort to get it.

Determine how you want your day to go, what you want to accomplish, and how you plan to accomplish it, and take action in that direction.

The day will have plans of its own and you will have to adapt, but if you start your day without intention, you are at the mercy of whim and fate.

If you abdicate responsibility for your life, do not expect your life to be the life you want.

When you awaken each morning, you get to decide how your day begins.

This decision, coupled with action, will set the tone for the rest of your day.

You cannot control what the day will bring, but you can control how you approach it.

    Approach each day with intention.

These are the only days you get.

  • Decisions Over Time

Our lives do not typically go astray all at one time.

We make little decisions that slowly take us off course.

Enough of these decisions over a long enough period of time results in our finding ourselves far away from where we intended to go.

Looking at where we are, we get confused and ask ourselves where we went wrong.

It was most likely not one decision that threw us off course, however, but many little ones.

Every decision matters and the choices we make add up.

Enough little, seemingly insignificant things, that we do now, if left unchecked, can have a drastic effect on who we become in the future.

For better or worse, little words and deeds, compounded over time, have a big effect on our lives and the lives of those around us.

We must therefore be mindful of how every choice we make today will affect who we become tomorrow.

  • Choose Your Fate

Someday, you may have to choose between what feels good and what is good for you.

In fact, this decision will likely have to be made many times over throughout your life for all sorts of things, both large and small.

Sometimes these decisions will be easy based on the choices you are given.

Other times, it will be more confusing because what feels good and what is good for you will both seem like reasonable options with little to no obvious consequences.

But there will be a time in your life when the decision you have to make will matter.

It will be a fork in the road that will change your life’s trajectory.

There will be no obvious answer.

You will have to make a decision and you will feel conflicted about it.

When this day comes, the question you should ask yourself is not what you should do, but who do you want to become, and then let the answer guide your decision.

  • False Assumptions

You cannot assume other people will think about you in the same way or to the same degree that you think about them.

Most people are worried about themselves.

They are focused on their own lives, fears, and desires.

Do not assume malicious intent simply because you are overlooked, under-appreciated, or misunderstood, do

People are busy and life is difficult.

They may not necessarily mean to hurt you.

In fact, they may not even know that you are hurt.

They are too preoccupied with their own lives to think about you, let alone to want to do you harm.

It is not that you are insignificant.

    Far from it.

It is merely that you are not often going to be the sole focal point in someone else’s life, nor are they likely to be yours.

Be slow to anger, but quick to understanding.

You will be happier in the long and short run.
