• Leading With Trust

  Part of being a leader is trusting other people to do their jobs.

  They may not do things perfectly.

  They may not do things how you would.

  They may not even do things how you want.

  But you have to let them try.

  Being a leader means not doing everything yourself.

  You will achieve much more together than you would have alone, but you must be willing to let go of control in order to truly lead.

• Great Mentors

  The help you needed may be different than the help others need from you.

  It is an honorable thing to be for others the kind of mentor that you needed yourself.

  This is a noble goal and a powerful way to be of service.

  As you grow, however, you may find this strategy to be extremely limiting.

  Not everyone needs what you needed.

  Instead of trying to be who you needed, the higher calling is to be who others need, but this requires a greater amount of compassion and wisdom because it means looking past and feeling beyond yourself.

  Good mentors serve who they once were, but great mentors serve who is in front of them.

• Prioritize People

  Prioritize people.

  No matter what your principles are, caring about others must be a priority.

  If not, your priorities are misaligned.

  At the end of the day, your relationships define your life.

  Your accomplishments mean nothing if you have helped no one along the way.

  Your legacy is made through the people you have touched and changed in your lifetime.

  Prioritize people over power, property, and prestige, and your life will have a long-lasting sense of meaning and purpose.

  It is possible to be both successful and kind.

  In fact, kindness is its own form of success.

  What kind of change are you trying to make, anyway?

  What kind of world do you want to live in?

  What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

  Success is a measure of the positive change you make in others.

  Be successful being generous and kind.

• Serve Who They Are

  What you needed and what you need may be different from what others need from you.

  Everyone is not like you.

  By assuming they are, you are limiting your ability to be of service.

  Your task is to serve others as they are, not to serve who you were or are.

  To the best of your ability, be who they need.

  This will require a level of empathy and compassion that you may not be accustomed to.

  It won’t be easy, but it will make you grow.
