Meditations on God

  • Others Like You

If what you need doesn’t exist, build it.

Create that which you wish you had when you were getting started.

Be the kind of teacher you needed.

There are likely others who are in the same position as you were.

Take what you have learned and use it to help others.

Your experience is your most valuable asset.

Serve the person you were by being of service to others like you.

  • Slow Down

    You cannot slow life down.

You can, however, slow yourself down so that you live life more fully.

Pay attention to the tasks and the people in front of you.

Life is what is happening now.

    Be present to this experience.

Savor this moment and every moment that follows it.

Life won’t slow down, but you will get more out of it if you do.

  • Seek Goodness

Try to love people for the good you see in them.

Of course no one is perfect.

If you look hard enough, you can find a reason to dislike anyone.

Some people make disliking them much easier than others.

But try to look past their flaws to see their innocence, their humanity, and their vulnerability.

If not for their sake, do this for yourself.

By looking for the good in people, you will naturally see more good in the world, you will have more love in your heart, and you will be much happier.

  • Progress In The Dip

Don’t let pride hinder your progress.

Whatever you are working to achieve will come with difficulty and unavoidable setbacks.

The more lofty your goals, the greater the challenges you will face along the way.

As you start to make progress, you will feel good, and motivation will be easy to come by.

But then comes the inevitable dip wherein progress slows, motivation wanes, and things get hard.

If you take this personally, if you perceive this as a sign of your personal inadequacy, you will quit.

If, however, you understand that growth is difficult and setbacks are part of the process, you will trust that it is in the dip that the real work is done and where the most progress is made.

  • Not What You Expect

The future is never going to be what you expect it to be.

Things will rarely, if ever, turn out as well as you hope or as poorly as you fear.

Time moves too fast for you to catch it with anticipation.

It cannot be pinned down, controlled, or beaten into submission.

The harder you try to grasp at life in your mind, the further you push it away from yourself.

As you read this, the future has already come and gone.

Did you expect to be here, now?
