Meditations on God

  • Connected Suffering

You are not alone in your suffering.

Others have gone through, or are presently going through, the unbearable loneliness and isolation you’re experiencing.

    Do not suffer in silence.

Share your story, ask for help, and don’t allow fear to isolate you from your fellows.

You need not bear this burden alone.

Of course, not everyone will understand, but someone will understand.

Do not stop until you find the connection and comfort you so desperately crave.

  • Misaligned Faith

Be careful to whom and what you align your faith.

    There are many false idols.

    Don’t create more for yourself.

Reserve your faith for that which is infinite and everlasting.

Like you, everything else will pass away.

No one and no thing on this earth is deserving of your faith, reliance, and trust.

Seek comfort, security, and guidance only from its source.

  • Waiting Quietly

In the spiritual life, there is a lot of waiting.

When life feels hurried, you will be called to slow down.

When the world gets louder, you will be asked to be quiet and listen.

There is a lot less to do than you think.

There is a lot less to think than you think.

The truth is not obtrusive, demanding, or forceful.

Be quiet, patient, and remain open, and, as the dust and debris of the world and your mind settles down around you, what you will be left with is the truth eternal.

  • Passing The Test

Sometimes you have to decide whether you want to do your best work or get an A on the test.

There may be overlap, but these goals are often at odds with each other.

To do your best work requires courage and vulnerability.

It means putting your heart on the line, giving your all, and risking criticism, failure, and embarrasment.

To get an A on the test, however, simply requires that you study and do what is asked of you.

Getting an A means doing what you must, taking no chances, and conforming to the demands of the test.

Before starting your work, make sure you know what your end goal is because that will determine whether you should put yourself into it or simply complete the task at hand.

  • Communicating Expectations

You cannot expect others to do things the way you would do them.

Nor can you expect others to see things your way or to read your mind.

These are unrealistic expectations and having them is setting yourself up for disappointment.

If you want others to be on the same page as you, you have to communicate.

You have to learn to express yourself in a way that your intentions and expectations are clear and easily understood.

The onus is not on others to understand you.

If you want to be understood, it is your responsibility to make yourself understandable.
