Meditations on God

  • Imagining Difficulty

Life is not without its challenges, but there is no sense in making it more difficult in your imagination.

Anticipating the worst does not prevent it from coming to pass.

What it does do, however, is ruin your experience of the present.

You simply cannot enjoy your life now if you spend all of your time anticipating a future of conflict, tragedy, and calamity, a future that may never arrive.

Life will not always go smoothly and terrible things will happen along the way, but nothing is made better through worrying.

Focus on what is in front of you, on what you have the power to affect or to change, and let the future worry about itself.

    change, future, worry

  • The Stream Of Life

    Wounds heal.

    Scars fade away.

Smiles turn into tears and tears turn into smiles.

    Relationships and experiences become memories.

    Life cannot be held onto.

It will slip right through your fingers if you try.

But you can enjoy this moment.

    You can be here, now.

You can do your best to get as much out of every second of your existence as possible and to pack as much as you possibly can into the ever passing stream of life.

    fulfillment, joy, life, presence, time

  • Freedom From Self Pity

It is okay to feel hurt and disappointment without feeling sorry for yourself.

In fact, if you want to live a joyous, fulfilling life, you must learn to experience hurt and disappointment without feeling sorry for yourself.

Things will not always go your way.

Life is hard and other people have their own desires, needs, and agendas.

Whatever happened to hurt or disappoint you already happened.

It cannot and will not be changed by feeling sorry for yourself.

Self pity does nothing to improve your circumstances or your relationships.

It is a weight around your neck placed their by your own hands.

    Release it and be free.

You will still experience hurt and disappointment, but at least you will not be adding to their weight unnecessarily.

    forgiveness, freedom, self pity

  • The Certainty Of Uncertainty

You never really know how things are going to work out.

This is true whether you do something or you do nothing.

There is just as much uncertainty in the paralysis of fear as there is in the action of courage.

There is no reason, therefore, to do nothing unless doing nothing is the most desirable thing to do.

Life can go terribly wrong whether you are brave or you are a coward, so you may as well be brave.

    Do that which frightens you.

    Pursue that which fulfills you.

    Seek meaning, purpose, and truth.

Do not allow uncertainty to steal away your opportunities.

  • These Days

It may not seem like it now, but someday you will look back and these will be the times that you miss.

Things can always get better than they are right now and they can always get worse, but they will never be the same.

You do not get this time back.

    Make the most of it.

No matter how difficult, challenging, or painful this moment is, embrace it and cherish it.

If life is going well, if you are comfortable, and things seem easy, do not take that for granted.

    Take it all in.

    Give everything you’ve got.

Do not look away and allow your life to pass by before your eyes.

Lean into the moment and live your life with intention.

Make living with purpose your purpose.
