  • Necessary Mistakes

Mistakes do not feel good, but they are necessary for progress.

    Learning is messy.

The path to mastery is not a straight line.

New skills and new knowledge are not easy to acquire.

Their acquisition requires effort, struggle, and the constant overcoming of obstacles both extrinsic and intrinsic.

This means you will make mistakes along the way.

You will have missteps, make poor decisions, and sometimes you will even feel like you are going backwards.

This is all part of the learning process.

It is not always easy, nor is it always enjoyable, but it is always necessary.

When you are attempting to learn something new, expect it to be difficult, messy, and even painful.

The mistakes you make on the path of progress may not feel good, but the lessons you learn and the results you experience over time will be worth the discomfort.

  • Time For Meaning

    Make time for meaningful activities.

    Meaningful is different than fun.

Fun is important, but like all forms of pleasure, fun is fleeting.

    Meaning sticks with you.

    It changes you.

It adds lasting value to your life.

Meaning opens your heart and mind to possibility.

It gives you a glimpse into the mystery of life.

Create lasting memories by sharing meaningful moments with others.

You may not know exactly what is or will be meaningful now, but you will know it once it has happened.

A good place to start is by making time for the people you care about and who care about you in return.

  • Risk And Failure

    Risk is scary.

And the more something means to you, the scarier it is.

There is no way around this.

Fear is a precursor to courage.

If you want to do something great, if you want to do something meaningful, you must face your fears and take the necessary risks.

There are a million reasons not to, however.

There are a million excuses, explanations, and rationalizations to choose from, and all of them may be rooted in truth.

It is logical to be afraid of taking risks.

    You could fail, after all.

If you take a chance on your dreams, things could go horribly wrong.

If you step forth bravely into the unknown, all of your fears may very well come true.

    Remember one thing, however.

Failure is not reserved solely for those who take risks.

In fact, you can play it safe and still fail.

  • Challenging Identity

People often hold certain beliefs as a means of survival.

Their beliefs help them to navigate through this complicated world.

Life can be joyous and fulfilling, but it can also be tragic and heartbreaking.

People’s beliefs give them something to hold onto for comfort and stability, and to help them to make sense of things that may not otherwise make any sense at all.

When you challenge these beliefs, however, you are not simply challenging ideas.

You are also challenging that person’s identity.

As such, you will meet resistance.

Before you do this, ask yourself if it is worth it.

Ask yourself if your need to be right is really worth trying to dismantle someone else’s identity and security.

Is what they choose to believe actually hurting you or anyone else?

Do you need for them to change their mind in order for you to be happy?

Does your identity, your stability, and your security hinge upon what someone else believes or does not believe?

If not, perhaps you should just let them be.

If so, perhaps you need to reconsider some of your own beliefs.

  • Here Now

Every interaction is an agreement to give your time away.

No one and no thing can give you your time back.

    Time is a non-renewable resource.

Be careful to whom or what you give it and for what reason.

Each and every moment is precious.

Every passing second deserves your attention.

It is easier than ever to get distracted.

Resist the temptation to look away from what is in front of you.

Be here now for who and matters.

Be here now for your life.

All you have is time and time is fleeting.
