Meditations on God

  • Your Work

Your work is not the work others tell you is important.

Your work is not even necessarily your job.

Your work is the work you know you need to do in order to fulfill your purpose in life.

It is the work that makes all of the other work unnecessary or irrelevant.

And yet, this is the work you resist most strongly.

This is the work that you distract yourself from most carelessly.

Prioritize your work and take meaningful action forward.

  • Weakness To Strength

    Work on your weaknesses.

They are your greatest opportunity for growth.

Your strengths are important and you will rely on them in times of difficulty.

But difficulty will also expose your weaknesses.

It is your job to pay attention to them and to work on them until they, too, become your strengths.

    Remain a perpetual student.

    Your work is never done.

  • Be Bored

    Be bored.

    Sit with your thoughts.

    Resist the temptation of distraction.

    See what happens.

    It will not kill you.

    You may get inspired.

There is magic inside of you waiting to come out.

  • Relative Bravery

    Bravery is relative.

What is brave for one person may be easy for another.

For one person, jumping out of a plane or entering a jiu-jitsu tournament is brave.

For another, it is brave to simply get out of bed or to leave the house.

You have no idea what it took for another person to get to where they are today.

    Everyone is struggling with something.

Assume that people are doing their best because they may actually be.

  • Anticipating The Future

You cannot anticipate your way into a better future.

Anticipation does nothing to change what will come to pass.

The only thing anticipation affects is your ability to respond to what is happening now.

It takes you out of this moment.

It makes you less present, slower, and more rigid.

This, in turn, negatively impacts your experience of this moment and other people’s experience of you.

The best way to ensure you have a better future is to be present and attentive in this moment so that you can do your best work now and be your best self now.
