your mind will wander
desperately reaching
for worldly concerns
tempting you to love
that which is
other than God
more than you
love God
for God’s sake
as these thoughts arise
simply smile
and shrug them off
with the grace
of the angels
for you know
that God alone is true

even the silence
is not silent
intrusions abound

but you can neither
engage nor ignore them
if peace is what you seek
rather allow them to pass by
like feathers
