In times
of spiritual dryness
when God
feels far away
and it seems as though
you have been forsaken
the good Lord
is preparing you
for something deeper
as long as you
remain faithful
God promises
to remain faithful
to you

Pride prevents me
from hearing God’s voice
self convinces me
that I do not need his help
as much as it pains him
to see me suffer
in separateness
from his blessings
freely offered
he allows it
because it is my choice
his love merely an invitation
a gift that must be accepted
for it is never imposed
Lord help me to accept
your love and mercy

Give the Lord space
to do his good works
in your heart
likewise
give him space
to do his good works
in the hearts of others
you cannot convert
the unwilling
anymore than you could
have repented
before you were ready
before you were broken
by your prideful
and sinful ways

The cross
I am asked to bear
may be cumbersome
and painful at times
but my burden is light
and my trials are easy
compared the cross
our savior Jesus Christ
was made to carry
when he bore
the sins of the world
upon himself
for our sake

as did all the days before
as will all the days that follow
every moment you are given
is given by grace and love
from the one
who also gave you life
and breathes into you
every breath
that sustains you
prayer is an acknowledgement
prayer is a thank you
prayer is a gift
given back to God
