  • Values Revealed

We may claim to value something, but, quite often, our actions say otherwise.

What we say, or even think, and what we do are regularly at odds with one another.

Even when our actions do align with what we claim are our values, it is sometimes because we are motivated by external forces to act.

Whether for fear of consequences, desire for reward, or coercion, we take actions that mask what our inner-most values are.

Our true values reveal themselves by what we are willing to do when there are no impending consequences, rewards, or coercive forces driving us to act.

It is the actions taken when we are at our most free that prove what we actually value most.

  • A Sense Of Wonder

    We are meant to wonder.

We are not meant to know everything, or to think that we do.

Without a sense of wonder, we stop seeking.

Without a sense of wonder, we cannot experience awe, spontaneity, or surprise.

Without a sense of wonder, we become cynical, bitter, and rigid.

A sense of wonder guides us towards life’s purpose.

A sense of wonder drives us to seek, to try, to fail, and to seek some more.

  • Memories Or Regrets

There is no way to get our time back.

Once it passes, it does not return.

We get what we get and we must choose how to use it.

We can either create memories or regrets.

    The choice is ours.

  • Making Feelings Known

It is never easy to put our feelings into words.

We can talk around our feelings, but we cannot really, truly convey our feelings with words alone.

Sometimes words are the best we can do, however.

Sometimes we need to express ourselves.

Some feelings cannot be left unspoken.

Sometimes we cannot keep our feelings inside without them eating us alive.

It is better to try to communicate in vain than to live a life regretting never having tried to make our feelings known at all.

  • High Expectations

We are less likely to be disheartened and discouraged by life’s disappointments if we simply lower our expectations.

But, a life lived with low expectations is hardly worth living.

While we may come to accept that the reality of our circumstances is not what we had once hoped for, we should not stop hoping.

    Hope keeps us going.

Hope keeps us striving for more and better from ourselves, our relationships, and our circumstances.

Our expectations, like our hopes, should remain high for ourselves and for those with whom we choose to associate.

We should hope for and expect the best from life.

When we are let down, of course we should reevaluate our beliefs and ideals to ensure that we are being realistic.

Sometimes, however, it is not our beliefs and ideals that need to change, but our circumstances.
