  • Building Character

What you are going through now that feels difficult will turn into invaluable experience for your future endeavors.

It does not always seem like it, but these challenges are making you stronger and wiser.

They are shaping your character and teaching you lessons that may not seem immediately apparent, but which will prove to be important later in life.

You will not know how or when, but someday you will see that what you went through is making you into the person you will become.

Treat these obstacles as opportunities for growth and they will be exactly that for you.

The resilience, tenacity, and fortitude you will need later is developed through the difficulty you face now.

An easy life is not a good life.

Learn to find meaning in your struggles.

Your future self will thank you for choosing courage early and often.

  • Goals For Change

    Everyone changes.

The question is whether you are changing for the better or the worse.

This is not always an easy question to answer.

Most change happens slowly, over long periods of time.

And change is rarely a linear progression or regression.

There are peaks and valleys along the path.

Add to this the fact that it is very difficult to have an objective self perspective, and it is easy to get lost in the journey and to lose sight of how far you have gone in one direction or another.

This is why you need goals.

Goals give you a point of reference.

They give you something to strive for and a way to measure progress.

Without them, you may simply find yourself coasting along.

Keep in mind, however, that you cannot coast uphill.

  • The Work In The Middle

It feels good to start new projects and to face new challenges.

Likewise, it feels good to finish projects and to have overcome challenges.

The middle is the hard part.

In the middle, things are less exciting.

There is no newness to get us going.

Nor is there the sense of accomplishment that comes with having finished something.

In the middle, there is only work.

That is why the middle is where most people quit.

It is easy to start new things, but the follow through is the hard part.

The real difficulty is in trudging through all of the things required between starting and finishing.

This is where all of the excuses sound the most rational, the most justified, and are the easiest to give in to.

Yes, it is often brave to start something new and to face new challenges, but it takes real courage and dedication to keep going when the newness wears off and to see your commitments through to the end.

  • The Gift Of Focus

Give yourself the gift of focus.

    Free yourself from distractions.

Concentrate on your work, unhindered by the noise and commotion of the world outside that is constantly vying for your attention.

Create a quiet place for yourself and do not let the world in.

There are very few people in this life that you owe your attention to.

    Everyone else needs your permission.

Be careful to whom you give it, when, and how often.

    You have things to do.

There is important work that requires your attention and you are the only one who can do it.

Give yourself time to focus on that which you are called to do.

Your work will reward you for your attention.

  • Your Best Ideas

Sometimes your best thinking will get you into the most trouble.

You do not know everything and when you assume that you do, you close yourself off to the possibility that you are wrong and you close yourself off to the possibility that others could be right.

This is especially true when, for one reason or another, you are determined to hold onto your own ideas in spite of evidence that they are no longer working.

An close-minded attitude coupled with obstinance is a recipe for disaster.

The only real way to ensure that you are right is to be willing to admit that you may be wrong.

This means acknowledging that others may know more than you, that they may have better ideas than you, and that you may need their help.

With an attitude of humility and a willingness to learn from others, your chances of success go up exponentially.

When your best ideas are not working, look to others for help.

If you are unwilling or unable to do this, whether out of pride, ignorance, or fear, you are ensuring your own demise.

Think for yourself, but also use the resources available to you, especially the people around you who are smarter, more experienced, or more skilled than yourself, and you will find that life is not only much easier, but also much more enjoyable.

    You are not alone.
