You cannot please everyone with your creative work.

It is a mistake to even try.

You must know who your audience is.

That is where you should focus your attention.

And your audience starts with you.

If your creative work does not please you, it is not likely to please anyone else either.

Not only that, if your creative work does not please you, it will not be sustainable.

This is not to say that you must enjoy all work that you do or that you will be pleased with all of your creative output.

It is to say, however, that when you are doing creative work, you should start with work that you actually want to create.

Develop the skills that result in art that pleases you.

Hone your craft along these lines and you will have something unique and special to offer the world.

As you put your work into the world, those who are pleases by what you are pleased by will begin to seek you out.

This is your audience and these people are your tribe.
