Taking care of yourself is not selfishness, but only taking care of yourself is.
In fact, taking care of yourself is the foundation upon which a life of altruism and service are built.
You cannot be of much use to others unless your own house is in good order first.
Without health and stability, your ability to truly help others will be limited and, oftentimes, misguided.
Once your fundamental needs are being met, however, once you are in a position to help others, only taking care of yourself will have diminishing returns with regards to the level of happiness and fulfillment it brings you.
A joyful and rewarding life is not found in a vacuum.
In the end, what you do with and for others is what will give your life purpose and meaning.
