When we presume to know what others think about us, not only are we putting thoughts in their heads that may not actually be there, but we are also wasting an untold amount of time and energy on something we can do nothing about.
The truth is that most people spend most of their time thinking about themselves, not about us.
Even when they are thinking about us, what they think is really none of our business anyway.
We certainly cannot read their minds.
Nor are we very likely to change their minds.
What, then, is the point of obsessing about what goes on in someone else’s head?
We are far better off trying to live our best life than trying to live a life that pleases others.
