Logic rarely overcomes emotion and emotion is always a factor in every interaction.
People’s feelings are quite powerful.
They tend to dictate how and what we think much more than we expect.
It seems reasonable to assume that you can talk people out of their feelings, but this is easier said than done.
Furthermore, even if you are able to talk someone out of the way they feel, the change may not be genuine and it may not stick.
It might seem counterintuitive, but people’s emotions need to be understood and addressed emotionally.
Empathy is a much more effective tool for responding to emotions than logic is.
Empathy allows you to understand other people’s feelings at the level of feelings instead of thought.
It allows you to go deeper and affect change in a more meaningful way than logic alone can accomplish when dealing with feelings.
Or you may not affect change at all, but at least you will not be fruitlessly bumping up against a wall of feelings with a head full of logic.
