Lord God
I want to love you
for your sake alone
out of purity of heart
and intention
but I am a sinner
blocked by pride
and selfishness
and so I pray
for your mercy
and graceful assistance

I cling to the hem
of Christ’s garment
my sins have kept me blind
and crippled for so long
I would give my life
for even a moment of freedom
from this bondage
of heartache and pain
but He gave His life for me
He carried the cross for me
and died upon it for me
for my freedom
for my salvation
conquering sin
and rising from the grave
so that I may see the truth
of God’s love for me
that I may walk in freedom
from the sin
that tries to keep me
from that love

When you submit
your will and life
to God
the work
has really just begun
all of your old ways
your fears
appetites
and anger
must be threshed out
like chaff from wheat
with the chaff of sin
being burned away
by the flames of purification
until all that remains
is the wheat of love
