If you are ever going to be happy, you must find a way to be yourself without feeling bad about it.
This may mean that other people are not as pleased with you.
You will never please everyone anyway.
To try is to drive yourself to frustration and disappointment.
It is better for others to be displeased with you than for you to be displeased with yourself.
Of course you should not go out of your way to intentionally upset others.
Nor is authenticity an excuse to be uncaring and cruel.
Whenever possible, you should find a way to walk the line of both authenticity and kindness.
This is not too much to ask.
It would be a real shame if your authentic self was uncaring and cruel, after all.
That said, you should also not go out of your way to please others when it means that you will be displeased with yourself.
At the end of the day, you have to be able to live with yourself even if, or perhaps especially if, others cannot accept who you are.
