When our focus
is on what we can get
from the world
instead of what we can
give up for God
we will never know peace
for it is only
through the sacrifice
of our worldly desires
and aspirations
that God reveals
his spirit
to us
completely

If it were up to me
I would have settled
for so much less
than what God has given
left to my own devices
I would have stopped seeking
a thousand times over
choosing to remain as I am
but God has a better plan
he desires so much more
for and from me
than I can imagine
he urges me to keep going
and gives me the strength
to carry on

The devil will always
give you an excuse
to stay in darkness
tempting you
with your deepest fears
and your strongest desires
telling you not to trust God
that the light is a lie
that nothing is real
except for your anger
and hurt feelings
but the truth is
that God’s light
is never not there
even in the darkness
if only you choose to see
